BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) The Tulare County District Attorney has accused Sean Hofmann, 36, of setting his wife on fire in their Porterville home.
The victim suffered severe burns on her face, arms, and torso and was airlifted to the Grossman Burn Center in Bakersfield.
Officials allege Hofmann sprayed gasoline on his wife before igniting it.
A GoFundMe page has been established by the victim’s son to assist with gas and food expenses for his siblings during their mother’s recovery. Although she is reportedly in stable condition, the victim has been placed in a medically induced coma.
Hofmann faces charges of attempted murder, torture, mayhem, arson, causing great bodily injury, and domestic violence. If convicted on all counts, he could face life in prison. He is scheduled to appear in court next week.
Ilene Parra, director of client services for the Open Door Network, emphasized the importance of community involvement in reducing domestic violence. “Educate yourself on the resources that are out there,” Parra said. “Be the voice for those who are still living in this cycle and the hope that there is a way out.”
The Open Door Network provides support for domestic violence victims, including case management, therapy, shelter, and housing assistance.
