City seeks public input ahead of search for new BPD chief

  • December 7, 2025

The city of Bakersfield will hold two listening sessions Tuesday to gather public feedback ahead of a search for a new chief of police.

In a news release, the city said it will soon begin its search for a new chief of police as Chief Greg Terry has announced his retirement, effective in April.

Before that search begins, City Manager Christian Clegg wants to hear from the public what they want to see in the next chief.

Clegg will host two Community Listening Sessions to receive public feedback on the qualities the city should look for in a chief and community priorities.

The first session will be held in-person at noon in City Council Chambers at City Hall South, 1501 Truxtun Ave.

The second session will be held virtually at 7 p.m. via Microsoft Teams. The meeting can be accessed using the following link: bit.ly/48gtUto

These meetings are to be open, welcoming spaces for residents to share their thoughts on what should be prioritized in the search for a new police chief and the feedback will help guide the search process, according to a city announcement.
