FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — One person is injured after a fire consumed a decades-old two-story abandoned building near the area of Tulare and F streets in Fresno’s Chinatown on Sunday morning.

According to Fresno Fire Battalion Chief Keola Park, one person jumped out of the second-floor window to escape the fire. They were provided with emergency aid and taken to the hospital with a broken leg.

Nearly 50 firefighters were on the scene battling the blaze.

Ladder trucks were positioned at the north and south ends of the building to prevent embers from spreading the blaze to other buildings.

The size of the building caused the flames to give off an extreme amount of heat that could be felt from more than 200 feet away.

Fresno Fire says the building had experienced multiple fires in the past, making the structure unstable. Portions of the building collapsed, and nearby power lines were threatened.

PG&E has shut off power to several surrounding buildings and businesses, including Central Fish Market. They are currently working to restore power to the area.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
