After five years in Atwater Village, Morihiro “Mori” Onodera’s Michelin-starred sushi restaurant Morihiro has just relocated to a sleek new space at the border of Echo Park and Victor Heights. At the new location, which opened October 10, Morihiro expands beyond its signature omakase to offer an a la carte menu of dishes like salmon skin salad, vegetable tempura, nigiri, zabuton steak and potato, and California rolls, plus cocktails from Han Suk Cho. The omakase, which starts at $400 and is only available to four guests an evening, remains the main focus of the restaurant; expect dishes including Onodera’s fresh cold tofu, hairy crab sunomono, more than a dozen pieces of sushi with fish sourced from California and Japan, and hojicha panna cotta. All of the sushi is served on Akitakomachi rice, which is grown in Onodera’s hometown of Iwate, Japan, and milled on-site daily.

The Victor Heights location offers 18 seats, plus a lounge area where guests can order drinks while waiting to be seated. Six bar seats have been reserved for walk-ins and a la carte service. Currently, the patio is being used as an additional waiting area but will eventually accommodate outdoor dining.

Anyone who orders the dish will receive a complimentary Artistry Edit palette.

Help save classic Crenshaw restaurant Chef Marilyn’s

Marilyn Cole, the namesake and founder of longtime Southern favorite Chef Marilyn’s, has started a GoFundMe to help purchase the building that houses the restaurant. According to the fundraiser, the current landlords of the building have decided to sell the property to developers, which would displace the restaurant. Cole hopes to raise $100,000 to protect the future of Chef Marilyn’s.
