Northern California forecast: Low clouds, fog linger in the Sacramento Valley

Another gloomy day for the Valley with fog, low clouds, and chilly temperatures, but warmer temperatures are forecast just up the hill.

LET’S GET ANOTHER CHECK OF KCRA 3 WEATHER. GIVE YOU A LIVE LOOK OUT AT THE STOCKTON WATERFRONT FROM OUR WILL HERYFORD SKYCAM. AND YOU CAN SEE THOSE HEAVY CLOUDS, DENSE FOG OUT THERE, TAMARA. YEAH, AND IT REALLY JUST DEPENDS ON WHERE YOU ARE. I DON’T HAVE A DENSE FOG ADVISORY TO TELL YOU ABOUT, AT LEAST LOCALLY IN OUR REGION, BUT YOU CAN SEE SOME OF THAT LAYER OF FOG HERE AS IT’S PRETTY ELEVATED AS YOU LOOK HERE OUT INTO RANCHO CORDOVA. AND THAT’S THE VIEW COMING IN OUR RANCHO AREA. SO AROUND SACRAMENTO COUNTY, THE FOG IS CERTAINLY AROUND. AND EVEN THIS TYPE OF FOG, AS IT’S GETTING A LITTLE LOWER TO THE SURFACE, IT IS PRODUCING SOME DRIZZLE AND MISTY CONDITIONS. WE’RE IN THE LOW 40S IN SACRAMENTO AND STOCKTON, ALSO WAKING UP IN THE LOW 40S. MODESTO 23. RIGHT NOW IN SOUTH LAKE TAHOE. THE SATELLITE SHOWS YOU THE GOOD VISUAL OF THAT FOG. ONCE AGAIN, THE RADIATION FOG SETTING UP SHOP UP AND DOWN THE CENTRAL VALLEY AND EXTENDING OUT INTO THE DELTA. NOW, I’M ALSO SEEING SOME OF THAT FOG DISRUPT VISIBILITY AS YOU GET INTO PARTS OF THE FOOTHILLS AND PRIMARILY LOWER FOOTHILLS. AUBURN RIGHT NOW REPORTING VISIBILITY OF LESS THAN A QUARTER OF A MILE. THAT’S ONE OF THE ROUGHER SPOTS. AND THEN WE ALSO HAVE SOME HAZY SKIES AND SOME OF THAT FOG SETTING UP IN AREAS LIKE JACKSON, PLYMOUTH AREA AND ON IN THROUGH SONORA. NOTICE IT’S JUST KIND OF HAZY SKIES HANGING OUT THERE FOR FAIRFIELD, STOCKTON AND MODESTO WEATHER PATTERN IS NOT GOING TO CHANGE ALL THAT MUCH. MOST OF THE ACTIVE WEATHER CONTINUES TO TRACK ALONG TO THE NORTH. AS WE GET INTO THE LATTER PORTION OF THE MORNING. SO EIGHT 9:00 STILL SEEING SOME OF THOSE HEAVIER POCKETS OF FOG. IF THAT’S THE TIME OF DAY WHEN YOU TAKE THE DOG FOR A WALK, YOU GET INTO THE OFFICE OR YOU TAKE THE KIDS TO SCHOOL. JUST PLAN FOR THE FOG TO BE AROUND. AND IN FACT, THIS FORECAST MODEL BY THREE 4:00 THIS AFTERNOON DOES SHOW MAYBE A BREAKING UP OF THE INVERSION. I’M JUST NOT CONFIDENT TO SAY THAT WE’RE ACTUALLY GOING TO SEE MUCH OF ANY SUNSHINE THOUGH TODAY IN THE VALLEY. NOW, IF YOU’RE IN THE FOOTHILLS ABOVE 1000FT, YOU’RE GOING TO SEE MORE SUNSHINE. SAME STORY FOR THE SIERRA. BUT NOTICE THE FOG COMES RIGHT BACK IN FIRST THING TOMORROW MORNING FOR YOUR TUESDAY, AND THEN IT MAY ERODE A LITTLE BIT AS WE GET INTO TUESDAY AFTERNOON. BUT CHECK OUT THE NUMBERS AS YOU LOOK AT THE FOOTHILLS AND THE SIERRA FORECAST, WE’RE TALKING UPPER 50S TO LOW 60S BY MIDWEEK. SAME STORY INTO THE SIERRA. NOW THE VALLEY NUMBERS, THEY DON’T BUDGE ALL THAT MUCH AS WE STILL EXPECT TO HAVE ROUND AFTER ROUND OF FOG. WE HANG ON TO THOSE 40S EACH AND EVERY DAY, MAYBE SOME LOW 50S BY THE END OF THE WEEK, AND THEN BY THE WEEKEND. WE MAY SEE THAT INVERSION LAYER BREAK UP A BIT BETTER. AGAIN, WE’LL KEEP AN EYE ON THAT SITUATION. THE OTHER DAUNTING THING, MIKE, IS NOW THAT WE’RE GETTING INTO REALLY THE MIDDLE OF NOVEMBER, BY THE END OF THIS NEXT WEEKEND, WE NEED TO SEE MORE SNOW IN THE MOUNTAINS. YOU KNOW, IT’S BEEN ABYSMAL FOR THE MOST PART. IT’S BEEN PRETTY DRY OUT THERE THIS DECEMBER, AND IT’S NOT WHAT YOU WANT TO SEE THIS TIME OF YEAR. AND A NICE STORM WOULD TAKE THIS FOG OUT OF HERE, SO IT’D BE NICE TO GET ONE. JU
