PORTERVILLE, Calif. (FOX26) — Four kids and one adult were tragically killed in a fire Sunday night in Porterville.

The Porterville Fire Departments says they were called out to South Indiana Street around 11:18 p.m. for reports of a structure fire.

When firefighters arrived, they found heavy flames coming from the home and went into rescue mode.

During a search, they found multiple victims inside the home, with one adult and four children were removed.

Despite lifesaving efforts, all five were pronounced dead at the scene.

The identities of the victims are being withheld pending next-of-kin notification.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

“This is a devastating loss for the family and for our community,” said Fire Chief Bryan Cogburn. “Our thoughts and condolences are with the loved ones affected by this tragedy.”
