Three men have been charged with a drive-by shooting in Santa Ana that killed a 13-year-old boy and injured three other teens in September, according to court records obtained Monday.
Martin Eusebio, 20, and Joaquin Uvalle, 19, were charged Friday with murder with a special circumstances allegation of a drive-by shooting. They were also charged with three counts of attempted murder with sentencing enhancements for attempted premeditated murder.
Eusebio is also charged with committing an offense while out on bail on charges of robbery, attempted robbery and assault with semiautomatic gun, all felonies.
Co-defendant Dan Mejia, 29, is charged with being an accessory after the fact and possession of a gun by a felon and being a prohibited person owning ammunition.
The name of the victim has not been released by police.
The shooting occurred about 8:20 p.m. Sept. 8 in the 400 block of South Susan Street, near the Santa Ana River, police said. The shooting injured three victims aged 14, 15, and 16, police said.
The defendants are accused of driving into rival gang territory and opening fire, police said.
Police also booked a 15-year-old in connection with the shooting but the suspect’s name was not released.
Mejia pleaded guilty to felony gang vandalism in May 2015, according to court records. Uvalle pleaded guilty April 8 to a felony count of carrying a loaded unregistered gun in public.
Eusebio and Uvalle are scheduled to be arraigned Jan. 14 in the Central Justice Center in Santa Ana. Mejia is scheduled to be arraigned Jan. 2 in the Central Justice Center in Santa Ana.
