PRESS-TELEGRAM BOYS BASKETBALL TOP 10

1. St. John Bosco (4-0): The Braves went 2-0 last week with victories over Francis Parker of San Diego and Los Alamitos. Senior forward Christian Collins is averaging 28.3 points and and 12.5 rebounds. Seniors Max Ellis, Tariq Iscandari and Gavin Dean-Moss have all stepped up as double-digit scorers. Coach Matt Dunn’s team is hosting the Bosco Classic this week and could play No. 5-ranked Long Beach Poly on Thursday and No. 2-ranked La Mirada on Saturday.

2. La Mirada (1-3): The Matadores had a 58-47 loss to Harvard-Westlake on Dec. 2. They will play in St. John Bosco’s tournament this week. The area’s top two teams could meet in the championship game Saturday.

3. Mayfair (1-2): The Monsoons are 1-2 overall but rise to No. 3 in this week’s rankings on the strength of a 68-66 loss to No. 1 St. John Bosco on Nov. 18. Senior guard Josiah Johnson scored 30 points in a 73-71 loss to Democracy Prep of Las Vegas on Saturday, Dec. 6.

4. Millikan (4-4): The Rams rise to No. 4 in this week’s rankings after going 4-1 last week and capturing the Pacific Shores tournament title. Freshman guard Quali Giran is averaging 22.6 points and 5.4 rebounds. Millikan will play a nonleague game against Leuzinger on Wednesday.

5. Long Beach Poly (2-3): The Jackrabbits went 1-2 last week, including a 65-23 loss to Harvard-Westlake on Thursday, Dec. 4. They drop to No. 5 in this week’s rankings. Poly will play in St. John Bosco’s tournament this week.

6. St. Pius X-St. Matthias (3-3): The Warriors went 1-2 last week and drop to No. 6 in this week’s rankings. They had a 84-66 loss to Millikan on Saturday, Dec. 6.

7. St. Anthony (3-5): The Saints went 1-2 last week and drop to No. 7 in this week’s rankings. They will be off until Dec. 20 when they play Sage Hill.

8. Los Alamitos (1-5): The Griffins went 0-2 last week with losses against Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks and St. John Bosco. Los Alamitos will host Cerritos on Wednesday.

9. Wilson (7-2): The Bruins have a four-game win streak and rise to No. 9 in the rankings. Coach James Boykin’s team is confident going onto its Moore League opener at No. 10-ranked Cabrillo on Friday.

10. Cabrillo (2-3): The Jaguars drop to No. 10 in the rankings after a 48-45 loss to Edison on Friday, Dec. 5. Sophomore guard Ului-He-Lotu Eteaki had 17 points and nine rebounds. Cabrillo will host No. 9 Wilson in a Moore League season opener on Friday.
