An inmate at the Men’s Central Jail in Los Angeles died Tuesday morning, prompting a homicide investigation.

The man’s death was reported around 5 a.m. at the jail on Bauchet Street.

The LA County Sheriff’s Department did not release details about the death.

It was not immediately clear what caused his death.

The sheriff’s department also did not say why the dead inmate was incarcerated in the first place.

The sheriff’s department investigates all in-custody deaths, which are also examined by department oversight bodies such as the Inspector General’s Office.
