FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — Fresno State’s bowl game in the desert means one bulldog returns to a familiar spot.

Rayshon ‘Speedy’ Luke spent three years at the University of Arizona and with the dogs heading to Tucson, the hope is for Luke to play on his former home field.

Luke was injured during the first half against San Jose State but head coach Matt Entz says he expects ‘Speedy’ to be back on the field come December 27.

This season, he’s had 690 yards on the ground and 6 touchdowns this year, which is more than his three seasons combined as a Wildcat.

Luke has also been used as a specialist returning kickoffs and punts and he’s a player Coach Entz can rely on in the big moments.

“All the skill sets that you’re looking for. We can use him on third down, we can use him on early downs, he’s a specialist, he can be a returner as well,” Entz said. “He’s got breakaway speed, he’s explosive. he can turn what any of us would think is a 3 or 4 yard run and turn it into an explosive play.”

Luke earned Mountain West honorable mention for his first year in the conference and had no trouble playing a bigger role in a new program.

“Just love the way he goes about his business. Very matter-of-fact, very grounded, very humble, it’s just part of the process for him,” Entz said. “I think that’s part of the reason he’s transitioned so well and hit the ground running with the bulldogs.”

The Bulldogs kick off against Miami of Ohio on December 27 for the Snoop Dogg Arizona Bowl.
