Last time out: USD jumped out to a seven-point first-half lead over visiting USC, and the game was tied at halftime. But the 9-1 Trojans went on runs of 13-0 and 18-2 early in the second half to roll to a 94-81 victory. Guard Dominque Ford led the Toreros with 22 points in 23 minutes
Series history: USD leads 11-8, has won four straight and is 7-0 at home against the Lumberjacks.
Toreros update: USD has lost five straight games, but coach Steve Lavin said after the USC loss that he sees improvements in the Toreros’ combinations and rotations. Twelve different players have started games for USD this season. Ford and 6-10 forward Alejandro Aviles made their first career starts against USC. Aviles finished with seven points and six rebounds. USD’s leading scorers are guards Ty-Laur Johnson (11.1 points a game), Juanse Gorosito (10.8) and Toneari Lane (10.1). The Toreros are shooting 78.9% (112-for-142) from the foul line.
Lumberjacks update: Northern Arizona has lost three straight and is 0-4 away from home. The Lumberjacks roster includes Diego Campisano from Torrey Pines High School. Zack Davidson leads Northern Arizona in scoring (15.9 ppg) and is second in rebounding (5.5). Ryan Abelman is averaging 11.3 points and a team-leading 6.2 rebounds a game.
