Sacramento will host an extreme sports event for the first time next summer. The X Games announced Friday morning the dates and times for their new X Games League (XGL) summer event. The XGL will be making its first Summer League stop in Sacramento from June 26 through 28, followed by Japan from July 4 to 5.X Games has existed for more than 30 years and features extreme sports like BMX, skateboarding and motocross during the summer.
Jeremy Bloom, CEO of X Games, said in a press release the launch of the XGL marks a new chapter for the fans and athletes.
“Sacramento and Japan are two places that elevate action sports with their energy, passion, and support,” Bloom said. “Starting the league in locations that consistently show up for the athletes creates the perfect foundation for what XGL is built to deliver — world-class competition, progression, and unforgettable experiences.”
The XGL will be a co-ed, team-based competition featuring eight teams — four XClubs in the summer and four in the winter — that will compete year-round, according to the release.
X Games has partnered with Visit Sacramento to bring the iconic event to Cal Expo and other surrounding venues.

CEO of Visit Sacramento, Mike Testa, said the event is huge for the city, not only from an entertainment standpoint, but from an economic one.

“We love to bring new, exciting events in Sacramento, so we’re thrilled to bring this one,” Testa said. “If you remember the Olympics, how big these extreme sports were, to have that in our city, at Cal Expo, potentially some other venues, is a big deal for the community.”Testa said the event is expected to attract thousands of attendees.
“Some of the projections that we’re getting from X Games are up to 100,000 people over the three days,” he said. “Certainly, some of those folks will live in this region, but some will be coming from outside of Sacramento; that economic impact will be in the tens of millions of dollars.”
