FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) — The City of Fresno is getting nearly $5 million from the state to give new life to a long-struggling mobile home park and to help veterans in need find a stable place to call home.
The $4.9 million award comes from California’s Homekey+ Program and will be used to preserve and revitalize La Hacienda Mobile Estates, formerly known as Trails End Mobile Home Park.
The project will provide affordable, permanent housing for homeless and at-risk veterans, many of whom are also dealing with mental health or substance use challenges.
In partnership with Self-Help Enterprises, the city plans to install 18 new manufactured homes, 12 one-bedroom units and six two-bedroom units, all designed for long-term, supportive living.
“This project is a lifeline for a community that has long been overlooked,” Mayor Jerry Dyer said in a statement. “By preserving La Hacienda, we’re preventing displacement, expanding affordable housing in Fresno, and restoring stability for families and individuals who deserve the chance to prosper.”
The grant will also help preserve existing homes within the 5.21-acre park, ensuring that current residents aren’t displaced as the neighborhood undergoes improvements.
City leaders say the revitalization of La Hacienda isn’t just about construction, it’s about community.
The new development will include on-site services and dedicated veteran support, giving residents access to the resources they need to rebuild their lives.
Officials say the project is a model for how state and local partnerships can tackle homelessness while maintaining affordability and dignity for Fresno’s most vulnerable residents.
