The bicyclist killed in an unsolved hit-and-run in Petaluma was identified as George Ramos, a 67-year-old resident of San Rafael, according to the Sonoma County Coroner’s Office.
The driver and vehicle involved in the Nov. 22 hit-and run is still unknown as of Friday, said Officer David deRutte, a spokesperson for California Highway Patrol’s Santa Rosa office.
A preliminary investigation indicated the crash likely happened overnight or early that Saturday morning, according to officials. However, officers responded shortly after 9:30 a.m., when a passerby found the cyclist off the roadway on Rainsville Road near Stony Point Road.
Ramos, the cyclist, was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.
On the day of the incident, DeRutte said the bicyclist was likely not visible to passing vehicles due to foggy conditions.
CHP officials are still urging anyone with information to contact 707-806-5600 or the CHP Golden Gate Dispatch center at 707-641-8300.
