Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass held a rally Saturday morning to launch her reelection bid.

Hundreds gathered at L.A. Trade Tech College in downtown Los Angeles to hear Bass and others speak on her tenure, which began when she defeated billionaire developer Rick Caruso in the 2022 election.

Major events and factors that have defined the three-plus years L.A.’s first female mayor has led the city are homelessness, crime rates, jobs and recovery from the devastating January 2025 wildfires.

So far, three candidates have launched formal campaigns for next year’s mayoral election, including former Los Angeles Unified School District Superintendent Austin Beutner, Housing Now California deputy director Rae Huang and Porter Ranch Neighborhood Council member Asaad Alnajjar.

Caruso has yet to confirm whether he will be running for mayor or if he is shifting his focus to the California gubernatorial election. Earlier this year, he told Bloomberg that he was “looking at both paths.”

The Los Angeles mayoral election will be held on June 2. Should no candidate receive a majority, a runoff election would be held on Nov. 3 for the top two finishers.
