Every third Wednesday at 10 a.m., older adults gather at the South Pasadena Senior Center to discuss books. The Senior Book Club convenes this month on Wednesday, December 17, drawing members who share a love of reading and community. According to the City of South Pasadena’s official event listing, “The Senior Book Club is a book discussion group for older adults.”
Participation requires membership at the Senior Center, which welcomes adults age 55 and older, as well as disabled persons living anywhere in Los Angeles County with no geographic restrictions. The center, located at 1102 Oxley Street adjacent to the South Pasadena Public Library, functions as “a community focal point” and “one stop shopping center” for services and activities. For more than four decades, it has fulfilled its mission: “to offer a place in which older adults and persons with disabilities can meet with one another to fulfill their social, physical, emotional and intellectual needs.”
The Senior Center operates Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. under the City of South Pasadena Community Services Department. The Senior Citizens Foundation of South Pasadena, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit formed in 2006, serves as a fundraising mechanism for the center and is “100% volunteer-led.”
The book club is free to attend. However, “attendees must be Senior Center members,” according to official city documentation. Prospective members can complete a membership registration form available on the city website or contact Senior Center staff.
Senior Book Club will run on Wednesday, December 17 at 10 a.m. South Pasadena Senior Center, 1102 Oxley Street, South Pasadena, CA 91030. For more information, call (626) 403-7360 or visit https://www.southpasadenaca.gov/Events-Directory/Senior-Book-Club. Ticket: Free
