An Old Sacramento jewelry store is cleaning up after a weekend break-in where a suspect used power tools to steal jewelry worth hundreds of thousands of dollars from Super Silver.”It’s just unfortunate that somebody became a Grinch,” said manager Mary-Francis Chacon. She noted that while the store has experienced burglaries before, this was the first time someone used a power saw to cut through the wooden wall in the historic building.Surveillance footage captured the burglar kneeling outside the business just after 7:15 a.m. on Saturday, using a power saw to make a gaping hole. “Crawled through— that was like ‘Mission Impossible’ type stuff. It’s crazy,” Chacon said.Once inside, the thief made his way to the chains and bracelets hanging on the wall behind a counter. The masked burglar ripped about 10,000 pieces of jewelry off the wall and stuffed them into a garbage bag. Security cameras also picked up the suspect taking a trash bag out of a garbage can across the street to stash the jewelry.”It was like hundreds of thousands of dollars that he got away with,” Chacon said. The entire operation lasted only two minutes. In response to the break-in, the store has reinforced its walls with metal bars to prevent future incidents. Chacon remains hopeful, noting that more people are on Santa’s Nice list than the other one. “It helps that the customers coming in have the holiday spirit. But again, there’s still that energy lingering to where if you want to feel safe in your own home type and you’re not,” Chacon said. The suspect grabbed his power tools on the way out and left on a bicycle. Sacramento police are investigating, but currently have no leads or suspect description to share. The store believes the man may have cased the place beforehand, as he was seen riding his bike around Old Sacramento before the break-in and appeared to know where to go inside the store. The store has alerted pawn shops and is monitoring online marketplaces like Facebook for any signs of the stolen jewelry. They urge the public to contact the police or the store if they see a large number of chains being sold at a low price.See more coverage of top California stories here | Download our app | Subscribe to our morning newsletter | Find us on YouTube here and subscribe to our channel
SACRAMENTO, Calif. —
An Old Sacramento jewelry store is cleaning up after a weekend break-in where a suspect used power tools to steal jewelry worth hundreds of thousands of dollars from Super Silver.
“It’s just unfortunate that somebody became a Grinch,” said manager Mary-Francis Chacon.
She noted that while the store has experienced burglaries before, this was the first time someone used a power saw to cut through the wooden wall in the historic building.
Surveillance footage captured the burglar kneeling outside the business just after 7:15 a.m. on Saturday, using a power saw to make a gaping hole.
“Crawled through— that was like ‘Mission Impossible’ type stuff. It’s crazy,” Chacon said.
Once inside, the thief made his way to the chains and bracelets hanging on the wall behind a counter.
The masked burglar ripped about 10,000 pieces of jewelry off the wall and stuffed them into a garbage bag. Security cameras also picked up the suspect taking a trash bag out of a garbage can across the street to stash the jewelry.
“It was like hundreds of thousands of dollars that he got away with,” Chacon said.
They urge the public to contact the police or the store if they see a large number of chains being sold at a low price.
