FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (FOX26) — A woman and toddler died in a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Jefferson Ave. and Walnut Ave. near Easton in Fresno County on Wednesday.

CHP says the 28-year-old woman driver ran a stop sign and was hit by an oncoming SUV around 10:15 a.m.

The SUV did not have a stop sign.

The impact caused both vehicles to overturn off the northeast corner of the intersection.

The Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by a 17-year-old boy with a 16-year-old passenger, came to rest upright.

Both occupants, who were wearing seat belts, sustained minor injuries and were taken to Community Regional Medical Center for treatment.

CHP says the woman and child in a Honda Civic were not restrained.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, while the toddler was transported to the hospital but later died from her injuries.

Investigators noted the absence of a child safety seat in the vehicle.

It is currently unknown if drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash, though impairment is not suspected.
