Sacramento State will officially introduce Alonzo Carter as its next head football coach on Thursday. KCRA 3’s Michelle Dapper was the first to report that Carter would be hired to take over as the university’s 14th head coach, bringing experience from collegiate and high school levels.Carter is an Oakland native and has been coaching alongside University of Arizona head coach Brent Brennan since they were at San Jose State in 2017.Before San Jose State, Carter was a head coach for 18 years at Berkeley High School and McClymonds High School in the Bay Area with an all-time record of 129-69-3.Carter was also previously head coach at Contra Costa College, a junior college in Northern California. He was inducted into the Contra Costa College Athletics Hall of Fame last year.Prior to his coaching career, Carter was a backup dancer to hip-hop artist MC Hammer.Carter will be taking over a team that finished with a 7-5 record in 2025 under coach Brennan Marion, who accepted Colorado’s offensive coordinator job earlier this month. Carter is an Oakland native and has been coaching alongside University of Arizona head coach Brent Brennan since they were at San Jose State in 2017.

Before San Jose State, Carter was a head coach for 18 years at Berkeley High School and McClymonds High School in the Bay Area with an all-time record of 129-69-3.

Carter was also previously head coach at Contra Costa College, a junior college in Northern California. He was inducted into the Contra Costa College Athletics Hall of Fame last year.
