The stars who walked the red carpet — and the tons of camera flashes that accompanied them — brightened La Jolla on Oct. 16 when the San Diego International Film Festival Night of the Stars Tribute returned to the Conrad Prebys Performing Arts Center.

Mark Hamill — Luke Skywalker himself of “Star Wars” and a star of the recent movies “The Life of Chuck” and “The Long Walk” — received the Gregory Peck Award for Cinematic Excellence.

Academy Award-winning actress Marlee Matlin (“Children of a Lesser God”) received the Visionary Impact Award, actor Joe Manganiello (“Magic Mike” and “True Blood”) got the Spotlight Award and actor John Magaro (“September 5” and “The Agency”) was presented with the Virtuoso Award.

They were joined on the red carpet by filmmakers and actors from films being screened during the festival, which runs through Sunday, Oct. 19. Most screenings are at the AMC 14 cinema at the Westfield UTC mall just outside La Jolla.
