OAKLAND \u2014 A 36-year-old man died Monday from injuries he suffered in a shooting<\/a> nearly nine years ago in East Oakland and his death has been classified as a homicide, police said.<\/p>\n

The man\u2019s name was not immediately released by investigators. He was an Oakland resident at the time of the shooting.<\/p>\n

The shooting happened just before 7:45 p.m. on Dec. 22, 2016, in the 10400 block of Edes Avenue, between 105th and Cary avenues.<\/p>\n

The man, who was 27 at the time, was shot at least four times as he was getting out of a car, police said. A motive for the shooting has not been released, nor has any suspect information.<\/p>\n

Some friends took him to a fire station at 98th Avenue and International Boulevard before he was transported to a hospital. He was eventually transferred to a convalescent facility, where he died, authorities said.<\/p>\n

An autopsy Wednesday determined the man\u2019s cause of death was a result of the gunshot wounds and it was ruled to be a homicide. It is the 64th homicide investigated by police this year.<\/p>\n

About 10:46 p.m. the same night, a 23-year-old man was fatally shot in the 8000 block of Olive Street, a little more than two miles away. An arrest was later made in that case and police have said the two shootings are not related.<\/p>\n
