A 38-year-old man who was fatally shot by Los Angeles Police Department officers in Hollywood was identified Saturday.<\/p>\n
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner\u2019s office identified him as Juan Guerrero Rojo.<\/p>\n
The investigation continues into the fatal shooting of Guerrero Rojo, who was allegedly armed and threatening to harm himself before, according to police, advancing toward them with a knife.<\/p>\n
Officers from the Hollywood Division were dispatched at 3:35 p.m. Thursday to an apartment complex in the 1400 block of North Bronson Avenue, near Sunset Boulevard, to reports of a \u201dpossible suicide\u201d suspect, police said.<\/p>\n
The responding officers discovered that the man was armed with a knife, prompting officers to use a 40mm less-lethal foam launcher to subdue him, but without effect.<\/p>\n
Police said Guerrero Rojo subsequently began to charge at officers, and an \u201cofficer-involved shooting\u201d occurred.<\/p>\n
Guerrero Rojo was struck by gunfire and taken into custody. Paramedics took him to a hospital, where he later died as a result of his injuries.<\/p>\n
No officers or bystanders were injured during the shooting.<\/p>\n
Detectives recovered the knife at the scene and booked it as evidence.<\/p>\n
