Things got ugly between the Dallas Stars and the Anaheim Ducks on Friday, and not just on the scoreboard<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The morning after Dallas\u2019 8-3 win in Anaheim, Ducks forward Frank Vatrano was dealt a $5,000 fine, the maximum allowable under the Collective Bargaining Agreement, for unsportsmanlike conduct in a penalty committed against Stars forward Jason Robertson.<\/p>\n

In the third period with the game well in hand for Dallas, Robertson was streaking toward the Anaheim net and received a pass, though his shot was partially impacted by Vatrano, behind Robertson, slashing at him with his stick in the left arm. <\/p>\n

When Robertson curled away from the net and toward the boards, Vatrano followed, taking Robertson down from behind and appearing to wrap his arms around Robertson\u2019s face\/throat area.<\/p>\n

Vatrano received 16 minutes worth of penalty time for the play: a two-minute minor penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct, two more minor penalties for roughing and a 10-minute misconduct that ended his night early.<\/p>\n

The action led to a massive scrum between the Stars and the Ducks in the following moments. Robertson appeared to be OK once back on his feet.<\/p>\n

The teams will see each other again back in Anaheim on Jan. 13.<\/p>\n

The money from Vatrano\u2019s fine goes to the Players\u2019 Emergency Assistance Fund.<\/p>\n
