Air India<\/a> has decided to stop its non-stop flights to San Francisco from Bengaluru and Mumbai starting March 1, causing confusion among passengers who have already booked tickets, especially for travel after February 28. Many travellers are now unsure about their plans and are seeking clarity from the airline.<\/p>\n

An Air India spokesperson told The Times of India, \u201cThe airline has made changes to its North America schedule to better deploy capacity and manage rising costs linked to ongoing airspace restrictions.\u201d The airline said the decision is part of a wider adjustment to its international network.<\/p>\n

As part of this change, Air India will increase the number of flights from Delhi to North America. The airline will raise Delhi\u2013San Francisco services from seven to 10 flights a week. Delhi\u2013Toronto flights will also increase to 10 per week, aiming to handle some of the demand from affected routes.<\/p>\n

Air India said passengers booked on the Bengaluru\u2013San Francisco and Mumbai\u2013San Francisco routes will be moved to alternative flights or offered a full refund. \u201cAir India will seek to reinstate non-stop service from Bengaluru and Mumbai, should airspace restrictions ease,\u201d the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n

The move has led to strong reactions on social media. One passenger posted on X, \u201cI have flights booked on BLR\u2013SFO (with return) in May and DEL\u2013SFO (with return) on May 26. What do I do?\u201d Several others questioned why the airline would stop a route that is commonly operated using wide-body aircraft like the Boeing 777-300ER.<\/p>\n

Some passengers said they had planned their travel well in advance to avoid problems. \u201cWe booked months ago to avoid last-minute hassles \u2014 now, everything is uncertain,\u201d said Nakul Tirtha, a Bengaluru-based tech professional.<\/p>\n

Another passenger wrote online, \u201cI have family travel planned for May. What happens to our return tickets?\u201d An Air India official said the airline would directly contact all affected passengers.<\/p>\n

While the increase in Delhi flights may help manage part of the demand, the loss of direct flights from Bengaluru and Mumbai to San Francisco is expected to affect technology professionals and business travellers.
