TAKING A LIVE LOOK HERE. SUTTER HEALTH PARK METEOROLOGIST KELLY KERR. YEAH, WE ARE SEEING QUITE A BIT OF RAIN COMING DOWN ALREADY THIS MORNING. NOW MOST OF THIS PRETTY LIGHT, ESPECIALLY IN THE VALLEY, BUT WE WILL SEE HEAVIER RAIN, ESPECIALLY IN THE FOOTHILLS AND THE SIERRA THROUGHOUT THE DAY. SO SIMILAR TO YESTERDAY, BUT NOT QUITE AS DRAMATIC. SO RIGHT NOW, 57 DEGREES IN SACRAMENTO, CLOUDY SKIES AGAIN. WE HAVE A FEW LIGHT RAIN SHOWERS SPRINKLES IN THE AREA. NOW THIS IS A WIDER LOOK AT THE RADAR WHERE YOU DO SEE A LOT MORE ACTIVE WEATHER INTO THE FOOTHILLS AND THE SIERRA, EVEN A LITTLE BIT OF SNOW. WE’VE SEEN SOME THUNDER SNOW IN PARTS OF TUOLUMNE COUNTY ALREADY THIS MORNING. AS WE ZOOM IN CLOSER TO THE SACRAMENTO AREA. AGAIN, IT’S MAINLY LIGHT SHOWER ACTIVITY THAT WE’RE SEEING AROUND FAIR OAKS, CAMERON PARK, LINCOLN, AUBURN. SEEING THIS ELK GROVE ARE DRY RIGHT NOW, BUT THERE’S SOME SHOWERS IN THE VICINITY. DIXON, YOU HAVE A LITTLE BIT OF SOME RAIN IN THE AREA AS WELL. LET’S TAKE A LOOK AT FUTURECAST HEADING THROUGH THE REST OF THE DAY TODAY. AGAIN, NOTICE IT’S THE FOOTHILLS IN THE SIERRA THAT REALLY SEE THE BULK OF THE ACTION. THE HEAVIEST OF THE RAIN. WHERE A LOT OF LOCATIONS, INCLUDING AROUND BLUE CANYON AND UP NEAR PARADISE. WE’RE TALKING TEN PLUS INCHES OF RAIN HAVE FALLEN ALREADY. AND THERE’S STILL MORE COMING AS WE HEAD INTO THE AFTERNOON AND EVENING. IT’S STILL AGAIN, PRIMARILY GOING TO BE THE FOOTHILLS THAT SEES THE BULK OF THE ACTION, WHILE THE VALLEY SEES SOME GENERALLY SCATTERED SPOTTY LIGHT SHOWER ACTIVITY. NOW, AS WE GET INTO TOMORROW, WE’RE REALLY NOT GOING TO SEE A LOT GOING ON. MOSTLY CLOUDY SKIES. IT WILL CERTAINLY BE A LITTLE BIT BREEZY, ESPECIALLY AS WE GET INTO THE AFTERNOON AND NOTICE HOW ALL THE ACTIVE WEATHER IS REALLY JUST KIND OF SITTING THERE OFF THE COAST THAT’S GOING TO BE MOVING IN AS WE GET INTO TUESDAY NIGHT AND INTO WEDNESDAY, AND THAT’S WHEN THOSE SNOW LEVELS ARE REALLY GOING TO START TO DROP. NOW LET’S TAKE A LOOK AT SOME OF THE ADVISORIES THAT WE’RE DEALING WITH HERE. FLOOD ALERTS, FLOOD WATCHES ALL ACROSS THE AREA. BUT WE HAVE FLOOD ADVISORIES HERE IN THE FOOTHILLS. AND THIS IS SOME OF THE AREAS WHERE AGAIN, WE SAW TEN PLUS INCHES OF RAIN ALREADY SINCE FRIDAY AND IT’S STILL COMING DOWN. SO THIS FLOOD ADVISORY GOES THROUGH 1145 URBAN AND SMALL STREAM FLOODING CERTAINLY A POSSIBILITY. HOW MUCH MORE RAIN ARE WE TALKING ABOUT OR HOW MUCH TOTAL COULD WE SEE THROUGH FRIDAY? WELL, BLUE CANYON, YOU’VE ALREADY SEEN UP TO TEN INCHES ALREADY. YOU MAY SEE ANOTHER 4 TO 5 BEFORE THIS IS ALL DONE. SACRAMENTO AREA TOTAL THROUGH FRIDAY COULD SEE ABOUT 2 TO 5IN. SNOWFALL TOTALS. STILL EXPECTED TO BE PRETTY IMPRESSIVE AS WE HEAD FROM BETWEEN TUESDAY AND FRIDAY. DONNER PASS LOOKING AT 4 TO 6FT. SONORA PASS UP TO TEN FEET OF SNOW. CERTAINLY GREAT NEWS FOR THE SKI RESORTS, BUT IT IS GOING TO CAUSE SOME SERIOUS TRAVEL HEADACHES. NOW LET’S TAKE A LOOK AT THE SEVEN DAY FORECAST FOR TODAY. IT IS AN IMPACT DAY. WE WILL SEE SOME SCATTERED SHOWERS, 58 DEGREES HEAVIER RAIN FOR THE FOOTHILLS IN THE SIERRA TOMORROW. THE WIND PICKS UP IN THE AFTERNOON, WINDY WITH RAIN SHOWERS AND SIERRA SNOW FOR WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY. BOTH OF THOSE DAYS ARE GOING TO BE IMPACT DAYS, SO WE’RE GOING A STEP ABOVE AN IMPACT DAY. WE’RE GOING WITH ALERT DAY BECAUSE YEAH, YOU REALLY DO NOT WANT TO BE TRAVELING THROUGH THE SIERRA AT ALL DURING WEDNESDAY. Like yesterday, the heaviest rain is forecast in the higher terrain and areas north of Sacramento, though it is not expected to be quite as impressive as yesterday. There are numerous Flood Advisories in the Foothills, including Grass Valley and Oroville. Blue Canyon has picked up more than 10″ of rain since Friday! The Flood Watch for the entire viewing area is still in place through Friday.A few showers are possible tomorrow, otherwise we’ll see mostly cloudy skies with increasing winds. Areas west of I-5 to the coast have a High Wind Watch from Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday morning for south winds gusting up to 60 mph which could cause damage to trees and powerlines. Wednesday & Thursday are Alert Days for Northern California as more rain, strong winds, and heavy snow are forecast to arrive. Snow levels will drop to 5,500′ Tuesday night with 4-6 feet of snow possible around Donner and Echo Summits and up to 10 feet of snow possible around Sonora Pass by Friday afternoon.
