1.\u00a0Labor union urges public to show up for Saturday’s ‘No Kings Day’ protests<\/a><\/p>\n \u00a0A prominent labor union and organizers for Saturday’s “No Kings Day” protest are urging Southern California residents to participate in several demonstrations planned across the region against the Trump administration.<\/p>\n During a news conference outside City Hall Thursday, officials with Service Employees International Union Local 721, representing public service workers in Southern California with more than 100,000 members, called on residents to show up for rallies scheduled to take place nationwide with several planned in the LA region.<\/p>\n Union representatives emphasized the importance of mobilizing and resisting the Trump administration.<\/p>\n “The Los Angeles community will show the Trump administration and our great nation that we have no kings, and I repeat, no kings in this country,” Martin Manteca, organizing director of SEIU Local 721 and the California Gig Workers Union, said.<\/p>\n 2.\u00a0Bass marks 1,000 days until LA Olympics with ‘Games for All’ vision, new directive<\/a><\/p>\n Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass marked 1,000 days out from the Opening Ceremony of the Olympics on Friday by announcing the city’s “Games for All” vision for the Games and signing an executive directive to streamline city processes related to the execution of the Games.<\/p>\n Bass made the announcement on Venice Beach, which is set to host several competition venues for in 2028. The first medal of LA28 will be awarded at Venice Beach to celebrate the athleticism of the triathlon athletes.<\/p>\n \u201cThe 2028 Games are an opportunity to reimagine our infrastructure, strengthen community resilience, and expand opportunity for all Angelenos \u2014 a true \u2018Games for All,\u2019\u201d said Bass on Friday. \u201cThis is my vision for the 2028 Games \u2014 an LA made better for all Angelenos. We will accelerate street projects, streamline City processes and permitting requirements, and make sure that we are taking advantage of the economic impact when we welcome the world. LA will shine on the world stage.\u201d<\/p>\n 3.\u00a0LA County health officials confirm 3rd patient with severe mpox strain<\/a><\/p>\n \u00a0The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health on Friday confirmed a second case of a more severe strain of mpox in a local patient who had not travelled to areas where the virus is usually found. It is the third case confirmed in the nation.<\/p>\n Earlier this week, Long Beach health officials announced the first locally acquired case in their area. A few days later, LA County announced its first confirmed case. The cases are believed to be the only clade I mpox infections in the nation involving people with no known history of travel.<\/p>\n Clade I mpox is a more serious strain of mpox that clade II, which led to a 2022-23 mpox outbreak in the United States. Clade I generally causes more severe illness. Symptoms can include rash or lesions, fever, chills, sore throat, swollen lymph nodes and body aches.<\/p>\n Officials said that the three clade I mpox patients were hospitalized but were recovering at home. They were not identified.\u00a0<\/p>\n Clade I mpox has been primarily found in Central and Eastern Africa.<\/p>\n 4.\u00a0California’s Nov. 4 special election: Early voting trends mirror 2021 recall pace<\/a><\/p>\n As early voting ramps up across California, election offices are in full preparation mode with less than three weeks until Election Day.<\/p>\n Inside the Yolo County Registrar\u2019s Office, machines hum as ballots move through the counting process. Registrar of Voters Jesse Salinas says turnout so far is tracking slightly ahead of the statewide average.<\/p>\n \u201cHere in Yolo County, we\u2019re at a little over 7% turnout,\u201d Salinas said. \u201cStatewide, it\u2019s about 5% so far.\u201d<\/p>\n Salinas, who also serves as president of the California Association of Clerks and Election Officials, says the short timeline to prepare for this special election has been a challenge.<\/p>\n \u201cThe election was called in late August,\u201d he said. \u201cTypically, we have plenty of time to plan, so this has been more of a sprint than what we\u2019re used to.\u201d<\/p>\n Despite the tight turnaround, Salinas said counties are ready and voters can trust the integrity of the process.<\/p>\n (Spectrum News\/Daniela Pardo)<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n Your Notes for This Weekend\u00a0<\/p>\n “No Kings” nationwide protest set for Saturday \u00a0<\/p>\n In Case You Missed It (Spectrum News\/Tara Lynn Wagner)<\/p>\n The play “UnRavelled” is having its world premiere at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts.
