{"id":107814,"date":"2025-12-24T16:08:07","date_gmt":"2025-12-24T16:08:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/107814\/"},"modified":"2025-12-24T16:08:07","modified_gmt":"2025-12-24T16:08:07","slug":"man-dies-after-being-struck-by-freight-train-in-oakland-the-mercury-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/107814\/","title":{"rendered":"Man dies after being struck by freight train in Oakland \u2013 The Mercury News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>OAKLAND \u2014 A man was killed instantly Tuesday night when he was hit by a freight train in East Oakland, authorities said.<\/p>\n<p>The coroner\u2019s bureau was trying to confirm the man\u2019s name Wednesday morning and contact his relatives.<\/p>\n<p>The fatal collision happened about 9:45 p.m. Tuesday in the area of 66th Avenue and Coliseum Way.<\/p>\n<p>The man was apparently walking on the tracks when he was hit by a Union Pacific freight\u00a0 train, causing massive injuries, authorities said.<\/p>\n<p>There were no immediate reports of anyone on the train being injured.<\/p>\n<p>The death is being investigated by the coroner\u2019s bureau and Union Pacific police.<\/p>\n<p>The man is the second <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mercurynews.com\/2025\/11\/24\/victim-of-oakland-fatal-train-collision-was-san-leandro-missing-person\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">person to be killed<\/a> by a Union Pacific freight train in the same area in just over a month.
