The nightly procession, from Dec. 16 to Christmas Eve, started and ended at the \u00c1vila Adobe built in 1818, the oldest standing residence in the city of Los Angeles.<\/p>\n<p>Las Posadas on Olvera Street has been held since 1930.<\/p>\n<p>The annual procession began with angels holding candles, followed by small statues of Mary and Joseph being carried, and then shepherds made stops at businesses along the street. Its deeper meaning is that of the cultural re-enactment of the Mary and Joseph\u2019s nativity journey. The procession is seen as a devotional prayer \u2014 a walking prayer \u2014 and is also called a novena.<\/p>\n<p>Attendees on Christmas Eve saw Mary and Joseph re-enactors walked in the procession.
