Milford Township Senior Center<\/a> officials say the building is closed Friday, Dec. 26, because of the incoming icy weather.<\/p>\n

The National Weather Service<\/a> issued a winter-weather advisory in effect through 4 p.m. Friday.<\/p>\n

NWS meteorologists predict freezing rain will leave between one-tenth and one-quarter of an inch of ice behind, making roads and other surface conditions dangerous for travelers. More ice could accumulate along the M-59 and I-69 corridors.<\/p>\n

The weight of the accumulated ice has caused more than 14,520 power outages by 4:30 p.m., according to DTE Energy\u2019s outage map<\/a>, and damaged countless trees.<\/p>\n

The Oakland County Road Commission<\/a> called in salt-truck crews at 3 a.m. and urged drivers to exercise more caution on the roads. The commission also used social media to remind drivers the law requires a 200-foot distance behind salt trucks for safety\u2019s sake.<\/p>\n

The NWS encouraged people to avoid going out until well after 4 p.m. and offered these safety tips:<\/p>\n

\u2022\u00a0 Drive at slower speeds to allow for more reaction times in the event of a crash.<\/p>\n

\u2022\u00a0 People going outside should be careful with the first few steps on stairs, sidewalks and driveways where ice may be invisible.<\/p>\n

\u2022\u00a0 Because isolated to scattered power outages are possible, drivers should use caution at traffic lights.<\/p>\n
