Parts of the country have been blanketed in snow<\/a> within the last 24 hours, with California<\/a>, New York<\/a> and areas in the Northeast seeing plenty of fresh powder.<\/p>\n

California<\/p>\n

Parts of the Golden State have seen by far the largest amounts of snow in the last 24 hours. A staggering 55 inches has been reported in the mountain community of Aspendell, according to the National Weather<\/a> Service (NWS).<\/p>\n

While nowhere else has quite reached that amount, high snow levels are still being reported, particularly around Lake Tahoe. Palisades Tahoe, which is a ski resort, has seen 42 inches, the NWS reports.<\/p>\n

Along the Interstate 80 through Donner Pass, as much as 23 inches of snow has been recorded in the last 24 hours.<\/p>\n

New York has experienced some of its heaviest snowfall in years. In New York City’s Central Park, 4.3 inches has fallen in the last 24 hours. According to the NWS, this is the “first snow event Central Park has observed snowfall greater than” four inches since a winter<\/a> storm struck in January 2022 when 8.3 inches fell.<\/p>\n

More than 600 flights scheduled in the Empire State on Saturday have been canceled, FlightAware data shows, with the heaviest disruptions hitting New York City\u2019s John F. Kennedy International Airport, LaGuardia Airport, and New Jersey\u2019s Newark Liberty International Airport.<\/p>\n

Heavier snowfall has been reported in Upstate New York, with 9.2 inches in Poughkeepsie and 10 in Pine Plains. For numerous counties, Governor Kathy Hochul has declared a disaster emergency due to “imminent danger to public transportation, utility services, public health, and public safety systems.”<\/p>\n

“The safety of New Yorkers is my top priority, and I continue to urge extreme caution throughout the duration of this storm,” Hochul said in a statement.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere in the Northeast, there has been heavy snowfall in Connecticut, Vermont, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire.<\/p>\n

Weather Outlook<\/p>\n

For now, there are numerous weather warnings<\/a> for cold and storms in place across much of the northern U.S on Saturday. <\/p>\n

Parts of New York, Pennsylvania, Vermont, Rhode Island and Connecticut are under a mix of winter storm warnings and winter weather advisories as of early Saturday morning. <\/p>\n

Cold conditions are also expected to persist across the Great Lakes region through the weekend. Wisconsin and Michigan have numerous winter storm watches in effect, especially in lakeside areas.<\/p>\n

“Much of central and southern New England will wake up with 4 to 8+ inches of snow this morning as a clipper low pressure system continues to press eastward against a Canadian high pressure system that is supplying the cold air,” the NWS said in its latest update.<\/p>\n
