SAN FRANCISCO (KRON<\/a>) \u2014 A U-Haul truck was intentionally set on fire during a sideshow event near the intersection of Kirkham and La Playa streets in San Francisco\u2019s Outer Sunset District early Saturday morning, fire investigators suspect.<\/p>\n

Numerous people called 911 between 3:45 a.m. and 4:45 a.m. about the sideshow and burning box truck in the area. According to 911 calls, more than 100 spectators were at the illegal event.<\/p>\n

The San Francisco Fire Department responded and extinguished the U-Haul truck. SFFD Lt. Mariano Elias told KRON4 News that fire investigators suspect arson.<\/p>\n

An Outer Sunset resident who asked to remain anonymous told KRON4 News that he was unable to get through to 911. The resident captured video of the sideshow and burning U-Haul, which he said was rented the day before by his neighbor.<\/p>\n

\u201cDuring this time, there were no police officers present,\u201d the man said. \u201cI attempted to call 911, but was unable to get through for several minutes. The lack of emergency response was alarming given the size and intensity of the crowd.\u201d<\/p>\n

The San Francisco Police Department responded to the sideshow at 4:24 a.m. Officers arrived at the scene and saw people driving recklessly and setting off fireworks, SFPD told KRON4 News.<\/p>\n

\u201cA preliminary investigation revealed multiple suspects vandalized a truck and set fire to the vehicle,\u201d SFPD said. \u201cThe suspects then fled the scene in a vehicle.\u201d<\/p>\n

Officers patrolled the area for more sideshows and found a vehicle on the 1600 block of 45th Avenue, whitch matched the desctiption of a car used in the sideshow. The driver was detained and the vehicle was towed. The case remains under investigation.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis was a terrifying experience for residents in the area, and I believe it raises serious concerns about public safety and emergency response times in the neighborhood,\u201d the resident said.<\/p>\n
