What was once a living room is now filled with mud \u2014 the aftermath of floodwaters that tore through several homes in Pinon Hills, a desert community in San Bernardino County.<\/p>\n

As raging water roared through properties during last week\u2019s downpours<\/a>, Los Angeles County first responders rescued people trapped on rooftops.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe water was just coming in so fast it almost looked like waves,\u201d one resident told KTLA.<\/p>\n

Ramona Ralph, who lives next door, endured the Christmas Eve nightmare. She managed to get her horses out before the barn collapsed. Her yard turned into a river, and her neighbor\u2019s home filled with mud.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know Paul isn\u2019t in a good situation right now, but he\u2019s alive,\u201d Ralph said.<\/p>\n

Steven Prindle\u2019s brother, Paul, lived in the home for 20 years. He lost everything except for a few family treasures.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe house is paid off, but he has no insurance to take care of things,\u201d Prindle said.<\/p>\n

Volunteers are stepping in, clearing debris and salvaging what they can at this property and others covered in mud.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe made a post on Facebook and had about 20 volunteers yesterday because of it,\u201d said Dylan Turkowski, who has never met Paul but felt compelled to lend a helping hand.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s devastating to go through someone else\u2019s house. I\u2019m grateful it\u2019s not mine, and it\u2019s touching \u2014 that\u2019s why I\u2019m here,\u201d Turkowski said.<\/p>\n

The Prindle family and the Ralphs next door are grateful for strangers and neighbors alike for their goodwill during this disaster.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe community came together in the small amount they could because the devastation is everywhere,\u201d Ralph said.<\/p>\n

After all the mess is cleared, the Prindle family says they are determined to stay on the property. GoFundMe accounts have been set up to help with expenses:<\/p>\n
