A fire broke out early Sunday at a commercial building in downtown Oakland for a second time this year, but crews were able to quickly knock it down before it spread to nearby properties, according to the fire department.<\/p>\n

The Oakland Fire Department received a 911 call at 12:24 a.m. reporting the fire at 670 Ninth St., and had a crew on scene within three minutes, said fire department spokesperson Michael Hunt. When firefighters reached the scene, they found an active blaze burning on the roof of a single-story commercial building.<\/p>\n

Within about 10 minutes, crews were able to contain the fire, stopping the flames from extending to neighboring buildings and parcels. The incident was placed under control at 12:39 a.m.<\/p>\n

No injuries were reported, and no evacuations were ordered.<\/p>\n

Sunday’s blaze was the second this year at the downtown Oakland building, which most recently housed a sewing factory. (Oakland Fire Department)<\/p>\n

The building has a recent history<\/a> of fire damage. In April, a fire left the interior of the structure a near total loss.<\/p>\n

It appears that the building most recently was home to LSW Cut and Sew, a garment-making contractor. The building is owned by A&L Chan LLC, which is registered to Afonso and Lydia Chan of Oakland.<\/p>\n

The cause of the fire is under investigation, Hunt said.<\/p>\n
