BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) \u2014 A traffic stop turned foot pursuit eventually led to a shooting on Latina Drive and Pisa Way Monday morning, according to Bakersfield police.<\/p>\n
A quiet neighborhood street woken up in the middle of the night to police sirens and gunshots.<\/p>\n
\u201cI hear the officer yelling, \u2018get on the ground I\u2019m gonna shoot you,\u2019 and then about 8, 9, 10 shots out,\u201d said resident Mason Chapman.<\/p>\n
Bakersfield police said around 2:15 a.m., on Monday, Bakersfield police patrol car stopped a vehicle for a vehicle code infraction. Someone in the vehicle, not the driver, fled on foot after the stop.<\/p>\n
The suspect pointed a handgun at an officer and the cop shot his gun. We don\u2019t know how many shots were fired but this video shows over 20 yellow cones to mark as evidence.<\/p>\n
A video shows the suspect given medical attention by the officers who fired.<\/p>\n
BPD says the suspect is in critical but stable condition.<\/p>\n
\u201cAlarming actually, how quick it went down,\u201d said Chapman. \u201cBut I could definitely tell the police department men were on top of their stuff.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mason Chapman says the shooting happened right outside of his house. He was awake sitting at his window and saw everything happen.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s the weird thing about this,\u201d said Chapman. \u201cThe randomness of a police officer just pulling somebody over because there is not a lot of foot traffic.\u201d<\/p>\n
