Anthony Rendon’s disappointing tenure with the Los Angeles Angels is at an end.

The Athletic’s Sam Blum reports the team and the 35-year-old third baseman have agreed to a buyout that will end his time with the team.

Rendon was set to earn $38 million in 2026, the final year of a seven-year, $245 million contract.

Blum notes that Rendon’s remaining payment will be deferred in the three-to-five-year range.

The Houston native missed the entirety of the 2025 season after undergoing hip surgery and it remains unclear if he intends to continue his career.

Rendon signed his deal with the Angels coming off of a career year in 2019 when he finished third in National League Most Valuable Player voting and helped lead the Washington Nationals to the franchise’s first World Series title. With eight hits, two home runs and eight runs batted in, Rendon was named World Series MVP in the Nats’ seven-game series win over the Houston Astros.

Rendon’s six years with the Angels were riddled by injuries with the player missing at least 100 games per season from 2020 to 2024.

In 257 games with the team, Rendon batted .242 with 224 hits, 22 home runs, 125 runs batted in and a .727 OPS.

Anthony Rendon’s disappointing tenure with the Los Angeles Angels is at an end.
