More chains appeared to hit hard times this year with KFC, Popeyes, Arby\u2019s and more cutting back on locations in Fresno.<\/p>\n
But it\u2019s the locally owned ones that many Fresnans will likely miss the most. We lost some favorites this year: Javier\u2019s, Maria\u2019s Tacos, George\u2019s Shish Kebob and Noodle Q.<\/p>\n
Restaurants closed for all sorts of reasons. Three fast food restaurants, for example, closed to make way for projects involving railroad tracks and highway off ramps.<\/p>\n
But many closed due to a combination of hard times: Customers cutting back on spending, leases expiring, inflation, rising minimum wage, rent and energy costs.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s not all bad news, of course. Fresno and Clovis welcomed 35 new restaurants in 2025<\/a>. And many restaurants have already been replaced with new ones.<\/p>\n Fresno and Clovis restaurants that closed in 2025 The Craft House, located in The Third Place Global Eatery building on Pollasky in Clovis, has closed.<\/p>\n Bulldoc Korean Fusion<\/a> at Campus Pointe has been closed for months. Its liquor license expired at the end of November.<\/p>\n Carl\u2019s Jr. at Blackstone and McKinley has closed<\/a>, along with Taco Bell, as part of a project by the City of Fresno using eminent domain to funnel traffic below the train tracks<\/a>.<\/p>\n The Craft House<\/a> in Clovis closed earlier this month<\/a> after moving down Pollasky Avenue from its original location into the newly remodeled The Third Place Global Eatery building.<\/p>\n Com Pho Bamboo<\/a> at First Street and Nees Avenue closed<\/a> and has already been replaced with Rice Barn Thai Bistro<\/a>.<\/p>\n Five Guys Burgers and Fries<\/a> closed its location at the Marketplace at El Paseo<\/a>, where it has been since 2016.<\/p>\n George\u2019s Shish Kebob<\/a> in the downtown Fresno Galleria closed after decades<\/a> in business. (The unrelated George\u2019s Bar & Grill<\/a> at Blackstone and Herndon avenues is still open.)<\/p>\n Helen\u2019s Gourmet Chinese Food<\/a> at Fresno Street and Alluvial Avenue closed Oct. 31, but is being turned into something new \u2014 a handmade soup dumpling spot called Dumpling U!<\/a><\/p>\n Javier\u2019s Mexican Restaurant<\/a>, a Fresno favorite, closed last summer<\/a> after the founder\u2019s death and almost 50 years in business on Kings Canyon Road.<\/p>\n Javier\u2019s Mexican Restaurant put up this sign in July 2024, but hasn\u2019t reopened since. <\/p>\n KFC has closed several restaurants<\/a> in town, including the first-of-its-kind on the West Coast \u201cnext-gen\u201d smaller concept<\/a> focused on mobile orders at Herndon and Spruce avenues.<\/p>\n KuniSama<\/a>, the Japanese restaurant at Herndon and Willow avenues, closed quietly over the summer<\/a> after more than 10 years.<\/p>\n Lime N Basil<\/a> and its boba shop TeaZona closed their businesses<\/a> at Bullard and West avenues in April. They were replaced with Okome<\/a>, a fast-casual sushi restaurant, and a matcha and coffee shop.<\/p>\n Let\u2019s Roll<\/a>, the rolled ice cream business on Olive Avenue, closed its storefront, but continues to operate as a mobile business<\/a>.<\/p>\n Maria\u2019s Tacos<\/a>, the brick-and-mortar restaurant at Clovis Avenue and Kings Canyon, closed<\/a> after the original owner sold it someone new.<\/p>\n Mariscos El Centenario<\/a> with Mexican food and banda music<\/a> on Blackstone Avenue has closed.<\/p>\n Mitsui Buffet<\/a> on Shaw Avenue in Clovis was supposed to close temporarily, but it hasn\u2019t reopened since summer<\/a>. A few months before, a cockroach was found crawling in the buffet food.<\/p>\n Mitsui Buffet posted a hand-written note on its front door stating that it was closed for remodeling, but the restaurant appears to be closed for good.<\/p>\n Neighbors Old Town Clovis closed in June<\/a>, but was quickly taken over by a second location of The Lincoln Pub & Grub<\/a>, known for its $5 drinks and food. Neighbors Tap & Cook House<\/a> at Fowler and Nees avenues remains open.<\/p>\n Noodle Q Home Style Fresh Noodles<\/a> closed its popular Asian restaurant<\/a> at Ashlan Avenue and Fresno Street indefinitely, but says it is holding out hope of reopening<\/a>.<\/p>\n Pieology Pizzeria<\/a> at Campus Pointe closed without warning<\/a> in the fall.<\/p>\n Popeyes at First Street and McKinley Avenue closed permanently<\/a>, but locally owned taco shop El Premio Mayor<\/a> has already opened in the building.<\/p>\n Popolo\u2019s Pizza<\/a> closed its Fresno location at Palm and Nees avenues in Fresno, but the family owned pizza shop is not gone for good<\/a>. It now operates out of 37275 Avenue 12, suite D, in Madera Ranchos and continues to run its successful catering business.<\/p>\n Rally\u2019s on Olive Avenue and Highway 99 closed in April to make way for an expansion of the highway interchange<\/a>, including roundabouts for the onramps and offramps.<\/p>\n Round Table Pizza<\/a> at Shaw and West avenues closed this year.<\/p>\n Straw Hat Pizza<\/a> on Shaw Avenue in Clovis closed in September<\/a>, but was replaced with Dosan Social Eatery<\/a> by the same owners. It\u2019s inspired by Sweet Tomatoes and the Silver Dollar Hofbrau<\/a>, with an upscale cocktail lounge.<\/p>\n Taco Bell at Blackstone and McKinley avenues closed<\/a>, along with Carl\u2019s Jr., part of a project by the City of Fresno using eminent domain to funnel traffic below the train tracks<\/a>.<\/p>\n Uncle Harry\u2019s NY Bagerly & Coffeehouse<\/a> closed its Shaw and Marks avenues location<\/a> shortly after opening its new shop in Fig Garden Village<\/a>.<\/p>\n Vyxn<\/a>, a upscale dinner-and-brunch spot and dance club at Friant and Fort Washington roads, closed at the end of May<\/a>.
