BAKERSFIELD, Calif (KBAK\/KBFX) As California experiences record rainfall in the final weeks of 2025, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) is intensifying efforts to ensure driver safety in Kern County. <\/a><\/p>\n

CHP is urging drivers to slow down, stay alert, and exercise extra caution on the wet roadways. <\/p>\n

“With the bringing of the new year, wet roadways and impaired drivers are top safety concerns in Kern County,” CHP stated.<\/p>\n

Resident Ben Abdulla commented on the situation, saying, “Definitely yeah, as soon as it starts to sprinkle or the clouds get too dark during the daytime, Bakersfield starts to fall apart.”<\/p>\n

Another resident, Jose Arias, advised, “Just, if you guys are going to be partying out there, just make sure you guys Uber home. Be safe, I mean, you got family waiting for you.”<\/p>\n

Officer Jorge Toro of the CHP highlighted the dangers of impaired driving, especially in inclement weather. <\/p>\n

“Our concern is always, of course, people getting behind the wheel while they\u2019ve had a couple drinks or maybe it’s marijuana or whatever it may be,” Toro said.<\/p>\n

He warned that “inclement weather with a drunk driver behind the wheel – it\u2019s basically a recipe for disaster. It\u2019s already dangerous enough on a bright sunny day.”<\/p>\n

CHP announced that they will be increasing patrols during New Year’s Eve celebrations.<\/p>\n

“Our holiday enforcement period does start at 6 p.m. tonight, and it’s going to last up until 11:59 p.m. tomorrow,” Toro said.<\/p>\n

Last New Year’s, CHP reported 10 deadly crashes and 481 arrests statewide for driving under the influence.<\/p>\n
