New Year\u2019s Day greeted Fresno with a half-inch of rain Thursday morning and more precipitation is in the National Weather Service forecast.<\/p>\n

Showers are expected to continue through the weekend accompanied by the potential for thunderstorms on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, NWS Hanford said.<\/p>\n

The forecast anticipates Sunday for the heaviest rainfall with between a half-inch and an inch adding to Fresno\u2019s wet winter.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s also a 20% chance of rain on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Flood Watch, Winter Weather Advisory<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, NWS is continuing its Flood Watch to 10 p.m. Thursday for southern and eastern Kern County. NWS also has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the Sierra Nevada above 6,000 feet from Yosemite to Kings Canyon nationals parks. The advisory is for early Saturday through early Sunday afternoon.<\/p>\n

However, the Winter Weather Advisory could be extended or upgraded to a warning because a new band of precipitation is expected later Sunday.<\/p>\n

That storm will bring \u201csignificant snow above 6,000 feet for much of the Sierra Nevada, including to Tulare County,\u201d NWS Hanford said in its New Year\u2019s Day morning discussion.<\/p>\n

The dense fog that has enveloped the San Joaquin Valley this winter \u201cwill continue to be an issue as well,\u201d NWS Hanford said.<\/p>\n
