FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — The first day of 2026 was welcomed with rain on the Valley floor and mountain communities.<\/p>\n
Jackie Gonzales started the year on a good note with a morning run in Downtown Fresno, embracing the day and recent weather patterns.<\/p>\n
“It’s not that bad,” she said. “The past couple of days started to get colder abruptly because we had a moment where it was sunny and the fog came back, but I have to check the weather app every day.”<\/p>\n
This storm is expected to last into early next week, but with a lot more breaks in between.<\/p>\n
Stephen McCoy with the National Weather Service in Hanford says more breaks between storms is a good thing.<\/p>\n
It allows water to flow where it’s needed, but the possibility of flooding is still a concern.<\/p>\n
“Especially with the conditions that we’ve had, very moist ground that we’ve had, there is not a lot of room for runoff,” McCoy said.<\/p>\n
The predicted storms will also impact rain totals.<\/p>\n
“Thanks to the rainfall we’ve gotten over the last couple of months, we are running above average for perception across all of our climate sites throughout the Valley, and that is definitely good news,” McCoy said.<\/p>\n
Fresno and Clovis have crews on stand-by for calls related to flooding or downed trees.<\/p>\n
In Clovis, Chris Rodriguez with the Public Utilities Department tells Action News they have been preparing for weeks.<\/p>\n
“We can go throughout the whole city and clear out every single storm drain, and a wind will come through and block them all up again, so it’s a constant battle to make sure we keep things clear,” he said.<\/p>\n
