Drivers and vacationers traveling into California began following new traffic rules on January 1 as several public safety laws took effect.<\/p>\n

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is highlighting the changes to make sure people understand the updates, especially in areas like South Lake Tahoe.<\/p>\n

According to CHP South Lake Tahoe in a Facebook post, the laws signed by Governor Gavin Newsom cover crimes, electric bicycles, off-highway motorcycles, pedestrian safety, highway work zones, vehicle regulations, and autonomous vehicles.<\/p>\n

Some of the changes include new rules for burglary tools, required equipment for electric bicycles, and regulations for off-highway electric motorcycles. School zone speed limits have been updated to improve pedestrian safety, and the State Highway Work Zone Speed Safety Program introduces additional speed controls.<\/p>\n

Other updates affect vehicle safety, traffic speed limits, vehicle removal procedures, and rules for electric bicycles, powered mobility devices, and their batteries.<\/p>\n

Autonomous vehicle operations will follow new regulations under AB 1777, the post says.<\/p>\n
