BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK\/KBFX) \u2014 A welfare check of a man in a peace disturbance and allegedly threatening family members ended with a deadly officer-involved shooting Friday night in south Bakersfield. Police said the man was not compliant and armed with a gun.<\/p>\n
The Bakersfield Police Department said on Friday, January 2, 2026, at around 10:11 p.m., officers were called to the 3700 block of El Alisal Street, near Hughes Lane, to check the welfare of a resident who was involved in a peace disturbance and threatening family members.<\/p>\n
When officers arrived at around 10:20 p.m., they contacted the man, who was not compliant.<\/p>\n
Police said the person was armed with a handgun, and an officer-involved shooting happened.<\/p>\n
Medical aid was provided but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.<\/p>\n
Police said the officers were equipped with body-worn cameras which captured the interaction. The footage will be released as the investigation allows.<\/p>\n
