(KGET) \u2014 A man who was reportedly threatening family members at a south Bakersfield home was shot and killed by responding officers Friday night, according to police.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The Bakersfield Police Department said officers were called to a home in the 3700 block of El Alisal Street at around 10:11 p.m. for a welfare check of a man who was involved in a disturbance at a home. The department said the man was threatening family members.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\"><a class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/www.kget.com\/plus\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Watch 17 News, After Sunrise and more local news free on your smart TV. Click to learn more about KGET+ <\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Officials said officers contacted the man but he \u201cwas not compliant\u201d and was armed with a handgun. The department did not further describe what happened leading up to officers shooting the man.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">A statement from police did not say if the man fired the handgun or if he threatened officers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The man was shot and pronounced dead at the scene. He will be identified by the Kern County Coroner\u2019s Office at a later time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">On home surveillance video shared with 17 News, multiple gunshots can be heard from the incident.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The department said it would release body-worn camera video of the incident \u201cas the investigation allows.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Copyright 2026 Nexstar Media, Inc.
