Speed and a failure to stop for a red light were being investigated Monday as possible factors in a three-vehicle, hit-and-run collision that killed a man and a woman and injured three other people in Long Beach.<\/p>\n
The crash was reported at 10:15 p.m. Sunday at Sixth Street and Atlantic Avenue, Long Beach Fire Department Capt. Dennis Garrett told City News Service.<\/p>\n
Three vehicles were involved in the crash, Long Beach Police Department Lt. Benjamin Vargas said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe preliminary investigation indicates an orange 2021 BMW 330i was \u2026 eastbound on East Sixth Street and entered the intersection with Atlantic Avenue through a red light,\u201d according to a Long Beach Police Department statement. \u201cUpon entering the intersection, the orange BMW struck a gray 2022 Nissan Altima that was traveling (south) on Atlantic Avenue through the intersection. The orange BMW continued eastbound and struck a black 2017 Kia Soul that was \u2026 northbound on Atlantic Avenue through the intersection.\u201d<\/p>\n
Officers arrived to find a woman in the roadway and a man on the sidewalk. Both had been passengers in the Nissan and were unconscious, police said.<\/p>\n
Officers performed life-saving measures until Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived and pronounced both victims dead at the scene.<\/p>\n
The driver and front passenger from the Nissan and the driver of the Kia were taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries described as non-life-threatening.<\/p>\n
