FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) \u2014 Heroic action by a security officer helped save a man trapped in a fiery crash Friday morning in Fresno on Airway and Dakota Boulevard.<\/p>\n
This fiery crash was something he says, unfortunately, has happened pretty often in his line of work.<\/p>\n
“The best thing I’d do is get him away from the car, don’t want him to get burnt. I know he was having injuries, but he was coherent, somewhat intoxicated,” said Hernandez.<\/p>\n
It happened at 3 am, when Officer Hernandez said the driver had crashed into this tree before going up in flames.<\/p>\n
He had heard tires screeching while patrolling nearby apartments.<\/p>\n
“The driver was completely, his legs were mangled, and so we had to get him off the ground and away from the car,” said Hernandez.<\/p>\n
Two other people, presumed to be teenagers, were also in the car.<\/p>\n
One of them told Officer Hernandez that the driver in this white Nissan Altima had been drinking.<\/p>\n
“After we sat down and talked for a bit, I said, you know, just be glad and thank god you’re alive. You made it through this, you know, and look into the future. Don’t ever get in a car with anybody who’s been drinking,” said Hernandez.<\/p>\n
We reached out to the Fresno Police Department on the status of the driver and if there are any charges expected, but have not heard back.<\/p>\n
