FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) \u2014 A new HAWK Crossing light has been installed in Fresno County near Herndon-Barstow Elementary School.<\/p>\n
A High-Intensity Activated crossWalk (HAWK) is a special pedestrian-activated signal that stops traffic for people crossing busy streets.<\/p>\n
It is the first HAWK light to be installed in the county area and funded by the County, City of Fresno, and Central Unified.<\/p>\n
HAWK lights have been found throughout the city of Fresno by private development.<\/p>\n
The light remains inactive until someone turns it on by pushing the button on the light.<\/p>\n
The following sequence shows a flashing yellow, then solid yellow, then solid red lights for vehicles to stop, allowing a “walk” signal for people to cross.<\/p>\n
Once the red light goes dark, the signal will remain inactive again until someone pushes the button.<\/p>\n
The goal is to be safer and more efficient than a full signal at mid-block locations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"FRESNO, Calif.
