WALNUT CREEK \u2014 A gas station employee survived after being shot during an attempted robbery early Monday, and police arrested a 16-year-old in the aftermath, authorities said.<\/p>\n
All of it happened about 3:55 a.m. Monday at the Kwik Stop Gas Station in the 1300 block of S. California Boulevard.<\/p>\n
In a statement, Walnut Creek police Lt. Drew Olson said detectives arrested the suspect about 6 p.m. with assistance from Oakland police. Olson said they arrested him on suspicion of attempted murder and attempted robbery.<\/p>\n
The employee of the gas station went by ambulance to a hospital, where he was treated for a gunshot wound, Olson said. He was expected to survive.<\/p>\n
Olson said the preliminary investigation indicated that two people wearing masks entered the store and tried to steal cigarettes. The employee confronted the two suspects, and a struggle ensued, leading to the shooting, Olson said.<\/p>\n
