Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre<\/a> said Wednesday that anyone who says he has thrown in the towel on his battle with Parkinson\u2019s disease<\/a> is spreading fake news.<\/p>\n

\u201cThank you everyone for your prayers and concerns, but contrary to reports, I have not given up hope in my battle with Parkinson\u2019s!\u201d the 56-year-old Super Bowl champion wrote on X<\/a>. \u201cNot sure where this came from \u2014 but just like I never gave up on the gridiron \u2014 not going to start now. I pray there will be a cure one day and I appreciate you all.\u201d<\/p>\n

Favre also told TMZ<\/a> on Wednesday: \u201cI have absolutely not given up and I am fighting till the end. Yes I have progressed a little faster than I would have hoped at this point but I\u2019m extremely thankful and blessed!!!\u201d<\/p>\n

The former Packers\/Jets\/Vikings quarterback revealed his Parkinson\u2019s diagnosis last year<\/a> but hadn\u2019t gone into much detail about it until last week\u2019s episode<\/a> of his \u201c4th and Favre\u201d podcast. <\/p>\n

On the podcast, Favre sounds like he\u2019s trying to be realistic about his condition while also remaining hopeful.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs you well know, there\u2019s no cure,\u201d Favre said. \u201cI hear from time to time, \u2018Well, they\u2019re five years away from a cure.\u2019 You know, I hope that that\u2019s the case. I really do. But I\u2019m not holding my breath.\u201d<\/p>\n

He mentioned Michael J. Fox<\/a> and Muhammad Ali<\/a> as people who \u201chave really set the bar high on Parkinson\u2019s and treatments and things of that nature.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd I\u2019m sure that when they were diagnosed, they thought, \u2018Well, they\u2019ll have a cure in five years. I\u2019ll be fine,\u2019\u201d Favre said. \u201cWell, that\u2019s not the case. So, I\u2019m optimistic, but again, I\u2019m not holding my breath.\u201d<\/p>\n

Favre\u2019s comments on Wednesday may have been in response to a recent online article<\/a> that seemed to interpret his podcast remarks in a different way than he intended.<\/p>\n

Also on the podcast, Favre said he\u2019s in the early stages of idiopathic Parkinson\u2019s disease, which is the most common type of the disorder. He said his major symptoms are \u201crigidity and stiffness,\u201d which is worst in the morning before he takes his medication and has particularly affected his right side.<\/p>\n

Favre added that he occasionally experiences shaking but has not had any memory loss issues.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll in all, I\u2019m pretty good,\u201d he said. \u201cI would say I\u2019ve progressed maybe a little. … If you dropped a dime on the floor in front of me and I reached down with my right hand, I may for five minutes try to pick up that dime and eventually just grab it with my left hand. Initially when I would take the medicine, my dexterity in my right hand was pretty smooth. But that\u2019s not the case anymore.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo that\u2019s one of the reasons I think I may have progressed a little bit. Hopefully not.
