A 19-year-old man from Warren was found fatally shot in Pontiac on Wednesday in what appears to be Oakland County\u2019s first homicide of 2026.<\/p>\n
No arrests have been made in connection with the slaying as of midday Thursday.<\/p>\n
The Oakland County Sheriff\u2019s Office identified the victim as Cornelius Traves Murphy, Jr. Deputies found Murphy\u2019s body after a caller reported that a man was lying in the field next to his home, the sheriff\u2019s office said.<\/p>\n
.A crew from the Waterford Regional Fire Department also responded to the scene and determined the victim had been shot in the chest, the sheriff\u2019s office said.<\/p>\n
As an investigation continues, anyone with further information about the shooting, or who may have heard or seen something relevant at approximately 8:30 p.m. when the shooting is believed to have occurred is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP. Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $2,000 for information leading to an arrest in the case. Tipsters remain anonymous.<\/p>\n
