The Fullerton Museum Center\u2019s new \u201cOC Made\u201d exhibit aims to highlight the diverse work of Orange County\u2019s local art scene.<\/p>\n
After noticing that many open exhibitions in the area seemed focused more broadly on Southern California, the museum\u2019s leadership saw an opportunity to hone in on Orange County artists exclusively.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe want to really create a platform for Orange County,\u201d said curator Georgette Collard.<\/p>\n
Art submissions, which will be taken through Jan. 10<\/a>, must be less than two years old, and the artist must be over 18 and live, work, or attend school in Orange County to be considered.<\/p>\n Collard said more than 100 people have already submitted their work for the March exhibition, which will be judged by a panel of guest jurors. Chosen pieces will be eligible for several monetary awards, including a $1,200 cash prize for first place.<\/p>\n \u201cWe just want to be one step in people\u2019s story, and whether that\u2019s a person hanging their art in our galleries or someone attending and being inspired by what they see, we want to be there for both,\u201d Fullerton Museum Center\u2019s Executive Director Elvia Susana Rubalcava said.<\/p>\n Variety is encouraged, and the exhibit aims to showcase a range of mediums, from painters to mixed-media artists and photographers. Collard said artwork accepted into the exhibit will be judged by a panel of artists from different backgrounds and experiences, so \u201ceveryone gets a fair shot.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m really excited to see all of it come together,\u201d Collard said. \u201cI think it\u2019ll help provide a platform for artists to submit their work, connect with other artists, and have their artwork seen and judged by established artists, which can help their overall careers.\u201d<\/p>\n Guest jurors will include Abel Alejandre, a Mexican painter and printmaker; Dave Tourj\u00e9, founder of the art collective California Locos; and John D. Spiak, director and chief curator of Grand Central Art Center in Santa Ana.<\/p>\n The OC Made Exhibit will run March 21 to Aug. 9.<\/p>\n
