The San Jose Sharks have made a trade with the Chicago Blackhawks and acquired goalie Laurent Brossoit, defenseman Nolan Allan, and a 2028 7th-round pick.<\/p>\n
In return, the Sharks have traded the contract of retired defenseman\u00a0Ryan Ellis<\/a>, defense prospect Jake Furlong, and a 2028 4th-round pick.<\/p>\n Brossoit is a 32-year-old goalie who recently returned from a severe knee injury that kept him out of hockey since the end of the 2024 NHL season. Before this season, Brossoit last played for the Winnipeg Jets as their primary backup goalie to Connor Hellebuyck<\/a>. Brossoit has returned to the sport and has played for the Chicago Blackhawks\u2019 AHL team, the Rockford IceHogs.<\/p>\n In six games for the IceHogs, the new Sharks goalie has a 3.38 goals-against average, a .901 save percentage, and a 3-3-0 record. He\u2019s also scored a goal this season. In 140 career NHL games, Brossoit has a .911 SV%, 2.64 GAA, and a 64-46-13 record. He helped the Vegas Golden Knights<\/a> to their Stanley Cup Championship in 2023.<\/p>\n San Jose also acquired 22-year-old defenseman Nolan Allan. Allan has played 43 career NHL games, all with the Blackhawks during the 24-25 season. That season, the new San Jose Sharks d-man had one goal and seven assists while averaging 15:08 minutes a game.<\/p>\n In 29 games with the IceHogs this season, Allan has two goals and four assists. Allan was a first-round pick, 32nd overall, during the 2021 NHL Draft.<\/p>\n From the Sharks, moving Ryan Ellis\u2019 contract will give them some extra cap space without having to worry about the salary cap floor. Furlong, a 5th-round pick by the Sharks in 2022, will get a fresh start with a new organization. Furlong has only dressed for 12 games with the San Jose Barracuda<\/a> this season, after playing 66 last season.<\/p>\n By trading two contracts and getting two in return, the Sharks will remain at the 50 maximum limit set by the NHL. That is meaningful information, as Michael Misa<\/a> is expected to stay with the NHL team the rest of the<\/a> season.
